When I notice a feeling I don’t like: guilt, shame, fear, anger, others; I put my attention on it. What I mean is I focus on the feeling. Don’t judge it. Don’t push it away. Don’t try and understand it. Don’t attempt to look for its origins. Simply notice it. Merely see that it is there.
What I have found when I do this is much of the time it is diminished. Where the anger would have overwhelmed me previously, it seems to matter less. The emotion has less sway over me.
For an even better outcome, if I do it each time it happens (when I remember to), it decreases the regularity with which it occurs. I am less angry, afraid, guilt ridden.
All I know is my own experience. This has been mine. It might be worth seeing if it is yours too.
