A Little Happiness Just for You

Post 5: A Shift in Focus

One concern that keeps coming up when I talk to people about happiness as a way of life is a concern over complacency. The thinking seems to be, If I am not constantly worried about the bad, how do I stop the bad from happening? Or, If I am constantly focused on what I am doing right now, how do I plan for, or prepare for, the future? Or maybe, more simply, it is: If I am happy right now, how do I strive to get better?

For some reason, I have to be unhappy in order to work towards happiness? That is like saying the only way to get skinny is to be really fat first.

It makes sense to me that if I focus on the parts of my life that make me happy, I am finding more comfort and ease within them. If I am regularly looking for happy people, experiences, etc. I am more likely to find them. The more I am used to being happy the easier it becomes.

So instead of focusing on what’s wrong, it makes sense to focus on what’s right.
