Post 1,260: How to Stay Out of Trouble
I have times where I just shut up and watch what happens. This has proven to be much better than my previous tactic. Said tactic was to assume I know what was going on, and then try to control the situation I thought was occurring.
Typically, my old way of doing things lead to me creating a worse situation. Here are a few examples:
I thought my friend was upset at me. I got defensive. My friend got mad at me.
I assumed someone thought poorly of me. I became a jerk. They started to think poorly of me.
I thought my client had a problem. I tried to fix it. My client then had another problem to deal with.
That was the crazy part about how I was operating. Almost every time, I created the issue I believed I was smart enough to resolve. Even though, before I started trying to control everything, there was usually no problem.
Instead, if I just shut up and watch, all these situations take care of themselves. Because, usually, there was no problem for me to solve in the first place.
