At any given point in time, I will always have an immediate reaction. My thoughts come no matter what I do. And many times, I disagree with them. This is the power of taking a second to get into the moment.
My daughter is angry and she yells at me. My initial reaction is I want to yell back at her. Except, I don’t want to yell at my child as a general rule. I also think getting angry at my kids is a poor move. If I take a moment and remember these things, I can instead interact with her from a place of curiosity and love.
Ignoring my first thought can be a powerful shift in any moment.
