I have recently tried my first fast. One really interesting side effect of doing it was that afterwards it was a lot easier to not eat just because a hunger pang came up. Meaning I could skip the snack at the gas station and just wait for my (hopefully) healthy dinner.
The same thing is true when dealing with stresses, anxieties, or any thought or emotion that makes me feel bad. The more that I simply deal with them directly, the easier it becomes to handle them in the future.
I used to fear when a client called me with a problem. I was afraid I would screw up the deal, make them hate me, or some delightful combination of the two. However, I kept directly dealing with my clients and helped them through difficult situations.
Now, when I get an upset client reaching out, I am excited. I know I have handled it before, and I know I will be able to handle it again. The fear that used to overwhelm me now is a challenge that excites me.
