Imagine I am getting home from a long day of work, and I feel exhausted and drained. Before I go inside, I take 120 seconds to think of as many reasons as possible that my family makes me happy.

Suppose I am about to go into a negotiation. Take two minutes to come up with all the reasons it does not matter to me what the outcome of the negotiation is. The person who cares the least wins in negotiating. I can lessen my emotional response before I even begin.

Am I about to sit down with that annoying customer or coworker? I can use this two-minute prime time to appreciate all the ways this person or situation makes me better at my job.

This is a replicable practice that allows me to affect how I feel when entering any situation.
