How To Be Happier
I believe life gives you what you focus on. I decided I would help out by giving you something to think about every day. I will post a new thought (less than a minute read) with the goal of giving you something useful to ruminate on around happiness. I write about believing my own feelings. If I feel bad when I think about doing something, it might be a good idea to take some time and think about whether or not I really want to do it. Will it lead to something else that will make me happier overall? Or is it just something I think I have to do that makes me feel bad? What if I didn’t have to do it?
The pushback I regularly get when I talk to others about this is people don’t believe their own feelings. They don’t trust themselves. They give too much power to family, friends, work, school, culture, or something outside of them. Instead of trusting how they think or feel, they believe others know best.
I was listening to Abiding in Mindfulness and Joseph said a line about, “No deed is good if it is regretted.” I am probably messing up the quote. The idea is hopefully getting across though.
I thought about how it can be easier to look back at past decisions and feel that I know something was bad. This shows I have the ability to read how I feel about something and interpret it as good or bad for me.
Can I take that backward looking ability and apply it in the moment? I know I have the muscle, now I just need to work it out so I can learn to trust myself. I can exercise it regularly on small things in order to flex it when I need to apply it to big decisions.
How strong can I get at trusting I know how I feel, and taking care of myself to feel as good as possible?
