Post 110: Pavlov's Screwup

I trained myself long ago to make laughter my conditioned response. If I am just reacting to the person I am with, I tend to laugh or say, “Nice!” The problem with this comes when I am with someone who is not in a positive place. Then my laughter might come off as dismissive, or disrespectful.

I programmed a reaction that gives my more laughter and positivity in my day. However, it could potentially hurt the person I am talking to. I needed to adjust my previous adjustment.

Now I work to be more present and give the person I am with as genuine a response as possible. I don’t always do this. Sometimes the laughter still slips out in inappropriate situations. I am finding I am able to stay present more often the longer I focus on doing so.
