Post 1,325: The Powerful Man

I used to be a huge scaredy cat. Whenever fear, shame, doubt, or anger came into my mind, I would run. I was not allowed to have these feelings. Letting them into my world meant I was less than. I was weak. I was a failure.

Now, I know they are my feelings. I experience fear, shame, doubt, and anger. Full stop.

If I can, I take time to allow them to be. I let them come in. I acknowledge them. If I can, I attempt to love them. They are there for a reason. Typically to protect me in some way.

The amazing thing I have found from this practice is, I stop holding on to them. I had all these emotions pushed down deep inside me. Just below the surface I was a turmoil of these painful experiences.

When I allow them to be, noticed them, and let them go on their way, I feel so much lighter.

Even better, the habits, unconscious reactions, or blindness they caused became easier to let go of as well. I could be more present, and better able to deal with reality.

I used to think it was bravery and strength to ignore these parts of me. Now I think it is courageous and powerful to love them.
