Post 1,494: The Magic of Ice
How incredibly magical is the world we live in compared to most any time in history? Take just one simple example: ice.
If I want ice now, all I need to do is push a lever on my fridge. I don’t even have to make the ice. The person who installed my fridge hooked it up to a water line and the fridge has produced ice for me the entire time I have owned it. At this point, no human is involved in me getting ice besides me.
However, not that long ago, if I wanted ice in a hot climate, someone had to travel by ship to a cold climate, chip off a giant block of ice, then transport it for days or weeks to my hot climate, again by a not so fun journey over sea. The exact same desire took a month to fulfill, and ten to twenty people to do all the extremely difficult labor to get it to me. And it probably cost the equivalent of ten dollars for one small cube of ice.
Our world is only getting more magical every year. What if this started being a part of your story?
