Post 1,492: Storage Space

October 24, 2026•1 min read

Which sounds like more of a hassle?

Two or three times a year, I need a bag, and I don’t have the right one when I need it.

Or

I collect the majority of bags I ever get, need to find a place to store them and keep them in order, and then have to go looking for them the two or three times a year I need them.

I believe, without thinking about it, most people would say it is annoying to not have the thing I need when I need it.

I would argue that the ten seconds of annoyance when I realize having a bag would have been nice is a much lower mental burden than having to store and care for a lot of bags that I might never even use. Then multiply this by all the things I could be storing for “just in case.” How much is it weighing me down to merely have enough space to collect all the things I might need, someday, maybe?

This is worth thinking about both in reality, and metaphorically. How much of my home is storage space for things I rarely, if ever, use? And, how much of my day is spent worrying about things that never happen? Clearing out both can be freeing.
