February 20, 20261 min read

I used to have a compulsion to be busy. If I was busy, I was happy. If I was not busy, I made sure to do a ton of activities to get busy. (This mostly applied to work. I found it to be true in school for me as well, though.) For some reason, either I was busy, or I was a worthless human being.

I have learned how to enjoy the downtime more, now. I don’t have a lot on my plate? I get outside, or play a video game, or see if I can find someone who is free.

The funny part is, as I was retraining my default settings, I kept wanting to go be busy. Make more calls. Knock on more doors. Get stuff done! However, I was able to reprogram myself by constantly noticing, resetting, and refocusing. Now, I can enjoy a leisurely day.

I highly recommend it.
