Post 1,502: Perfectly Chilled
Here is a tiny thing to think about for how incredible our world is currently. I can get my drink to be chilled. Not room temperature. Not ice cold. I can make it just cold enough to be the exact level of cool I am looking for.
For ninety-nine percent of human history, I could not do that. If I was seen as a god king by my people, it did not matter. I did not have a way to keep any amount of ice I wanted. In fact, I would bet there were many people throughout history who never even knew ice existed. They lived in a hot climate, and ice just did not occur. They were not even aware water could come any way except maybe warm at the best.
Yet, I can add the exact amount of ice I want. If I added too much, I can just dump the rest out and not worry about it, because ice is essentially free and abundant to me. I can get all the ice I want any time I want. I can waste it. I can ignore it and start all over again when I actually want it. This one, tiny, refreshing option is so obvious, most anyone can do it anywhere now. Yet, even just one hundred years ago, not everyone could. How incredibly lucky am I to be alive today.
