Post 1,421: Choosing My Response

August 14, 20261 min read

I had a client in my realtor role get an appraisal on top of me doing a market analysis for them. This means both myself and another professional gave the client an opinion on price. Guess what? We had differing opinions!

At first, I felt myself go into “Well, of course I’m right” mode. I could feel the defensiveness, the indignation, the need for approval. They all came to rescue me from feeling bad.

Then I took a step back. I went through the other person’s report and they made some good points. Again, both these opinions were just that: opinions. What I really want is to do what is best for my client. That is the story I want to be attached to: Ryan Lynch does what is best for his clients.

So, I adjusted what I had found with the data the other person presented and had a real, authentic conversation with my clients. Then they made a decision based on everything, with me.

Turns out, when I pick the story I want, I can live in it.
