Post 1,387: Practicing Recovery

July 11, 20261 min read

I can practice disengaging from doom spirals.

I already know I can put myself into them. So, I do that. I start to focus on the situation I am freaking out about. I begin to get disturbed.

Then I change my focus to my breath. I take a slow, deep, comfortable breath.

Doing this, I prove to myself it is possible for me to make this shift.

I can practice this. I can take time to put myself into bothered states, and then pull myself out. This is an exercise. I can strengthen this muscle without having to be in a situation where I am uncomfortable.

This way, when I do get into an overwhelming situation, I am stronger. I can pull myself out of the worry, or stress, or fear more readily.

This is learnable.
