Post 1,295: Order of Operations
I was talking with a friend yesterday, and he was telling me about his fears in an upcoming situation. My view of the event was so contrary to his, that his fears were almost laughable. Except, if I had laughed, he would have felt terrible.
Taking the time to ask him questions and begin to understand where he was coming from made it so I could then explain my point of view. Once he understood my take, I could hear the tension leave his voice rapidly.
The thing is, it would have been very hard for him to hear me, if I hadn’t taken the time to listen to him first.
