Post 1,208: In it Together
I have been incredibly lucky in my life in that, as far back as I can remember, people have come to me with their problems. It has been a regular occurrence for a friend to tell me, “I have not told anyone else about this.” Or “You are the only person who knows this.”
I am amazingly fortunate because the people in my life trust me with their pain. They trust I will listen. They trust I will be there for them. And most of all, they know I will still love them after they reveal the thing that has been eating them up inside.
Everyone, everywhere has pain. Being someone who can hold space for other people’s hurt has been one of the greatest uses of my time I have found. It might sound counterintuitive; however, I would recommend either sharing your burden with someone else, or be willing to take on someone else’s burden. Knowing that we are all in this together is a huge producer of happiness.
