Post 1,200: How to Make Friends
I have a men’s group I am a part of that seems to have such a huge effect on the people in it, including myself. I wanted to give out the ingredients, in case anyone out there is thinking about meeting new people.
There are two weekly activities that are the same time and same place every week. This seems to be a vital element because then it takes off so much pressure. I can show up, or not. I don’t have to plan anything. They are just standing activities that everyone in the group is invited to every week. For this group, one is a morning walk, the other is coffee.
And then two to four times a year a weekend outing is set where the goal is to just hang out with friends. This allows for a chance to have a deeper conversation away from the world and the to-do lists. Typically, someone rents an AirBnB within an hour or two of where everyone lives. Again, people go on walks, hikes, and just get out in nature and connect.
This recipe works. I have watched what it has done for me, and my friends in the group. If you are feeling a need for more connection, this is worth the attempt.
