Post 1,172: The Real Me
I spent a lot of my youth really concerned with other people’s opinions of me. I was constantly concerned about being judged.
Will he still want to hang out with me if he thinks this about me?
Would she ever get into a relationship with me if I am this way?
Or even better, I need to become X, or possess Y before I can even attempt to befriend him, or date her.
I am the one who put all these prerequisites in my head. I decided I lacked, or fell short, or simply wasn’t good enough.
When I instead shifted my focus to liking myself, and doing things because they were what I wanted to do, I found a lot of people who liked the same things. I found people who like me.
Pretty simple result when it comes down to it. If I like me, other people get the chance to like the real me.
